There are some products that I use in many home organizing situations. I choose these useful organizing tools is because of their effectiveness and versatility. They are not very expensive, but they make a significant difference in the level of organization. And, you can use these items in different ways if your organizing needs change. Life changes frequently, and you don’t want to purchase new products every time that happens.
Drawer Organizers
Drawer organizers are great for keeping the contents of drawers neat and tidy (obviously). Although you can buy one-piece units, the modular sets with various sized containers offer more versatility. You can place the individual bins in any configuration to suit the drawers you have. If you remodel your kitchen, simply rearrange the bins to fit the new drawers. If you declutter your kitchen and no longer need the drawer organizers, you can repurpose them in a bathroom, office, bedside table, or even a toolbox. You can use them on a desktop, vanity, diaper change table or wherever you need to contain items and keep them within reach.
Shelf Extenders
Shelf extenders can double or triple your shelf space, especially if your shelves are not fully adjustable. Use these useful organizing tools inside cabinets to stack dishes. My favourite type is the expandable shelf extenders. This chrome model stretches out almost the entire width of a standard cupboard. The larger version is wider and sturdier – perfect for the pantry to hold canned goods. Stacking shelves are an excellent option for under the bathroom sink to organize your soaps and shampoos.
Odds & Ends Organizers
Odds & ends or bits & bobs – whatever you call collections of small items, you need some way to organize them. This 3-pack Parts Organizer has adjustable interior compartments, a secure closure, a convenient handle, and all three organizers can hook together for easy transport. Use them for storing office supplies, craft supplies, or hardware. For smaller collections of odds and ends, this light-duty set of containers with adjustable compartments would work well. There are dozens of types of small parts organizers available for whatever collection of odds and ends you have.
Vertical Sorter
Vertical sorters are a very versatile organizing tool. Place a small letter sorter on your desk or shelf to store letters, file folders, and other paperwork. You can also use them to store smaller cutting boards, cookbooks, or recipe files in the kitchen. Arrange clutch-type purses in a medium-sized vertical sorter. It will help keep them from being lost or damaged in the back corners of your wardrobe. Large vertical sorters can keep binders and large file folders neatly arranged on your desk. Use them in your kitchen cupboards to store bakeware. No more unstacking and restacking cookie sheets and muffin tins to find the one item you need.
Cable Ties
Technically, cable ties are not an organizing tool, but they are handy. By keeping cords wrapped neatly, your space will be easier to tidy. I like reusable Velcro One Wrap ties. Because they stay securely attached to the cable, they don’t get lost when you unwrap them. You can also get extra-long wraps for extension cords and garden hoses.
In my opinion, these are useful organizing tools. However, before buying these products, it is essential to declutter first (see my CLEAR Process). Then, choose the tools that work best for you. If you need some help in deciding, Out of Chaos would be happy to help. Contact us through our website.
