I was thrilled to be interviewed for the Reader’s Digest article, Sort Through Those Problem Areas. Along with fellow professional organizer Jane Woolsey of Toronto, I discussed several problem areas in the home that tend to collect clutter.
Drawers: Put containers or dividers in your “junk” or desk drawers, so everything has a place and is visible and accessible. Keep papers in basic groups (e.g. invitations, projects, bills, receipts) in folders.
Kitchen Cabinets: Mounting as many appliances as possible under the cabinet to gain counter space. Remove staples (flour, sugar, cereal, etc.), from their packages. Put them into a permanent containers. It’s harder to fit many different shaped packages, and you can stack the containers.
Bedroom Closets: Reverse all your hangers. Then as you wear something, turn the hanger the right way around. In six months, see what you haven’t touched, and get rid of it. Maximize space by hanging shoe bags, double rods, and using special hangers for ties and scarves.
