I was happy to share my thoughts on collapsible storage solutions for apartment dwellers in an article on LivingEtc.
One solution I often suggest is collapsible boxes. They are light and portable, and you can pack them flat when not in use. You can also use them to store many items, such as toys, accessories, knitting, and crafting projects.
Fortunately, collapsible boxes come in many shapes and sizes. Here are a few of my favourites:
- IKEA STUK: These large, sturdy cases are ideal for storing linens and off-season clothing. With handles and labels on two sides, you can store them on deep or narrow shelves. The zipper closure means the contents stay dust-free.
- IKEA DRÖNA: These come in two sizes for deep or shallow shelving units. They don’t have lids, so they are perfect for holding items you need to access frequently, like toys, winter accessories, and craft projects. Although I often suggest people buy transparent containers, sometimes you want to hide the visual clutter – especially in small spaces.
- Under-the-bed storage: There are various types of under-the-bed collapsible storage boxes. Choose ones with transparent tops so you can easily see the contents. Also, those that close with a zipper to keep your items dust-free. These containers are great for storing off-season clothing, accessories, and extra linens and towels.
