Without a doubt, spending time alone without distractions can increase your productivity. But that doesn’t work for everyone and might not work in every scenario. Sometimes working with others can give us the boost we need to get more done. I’ll discuss using a mastermind group as a productivity partner in this post.
What is a Mastermind Group?
A mastermind group is a small group of people (usually four to six) that work together to support, encourage, and motivate each other. Members are generally in the same stage of life or business and want to improve and grow. Think of it as having several accountability buddies that all meet at the same time. However, when you share an idea or plan with a mastermind group, you get a broader range of feedback. You can also learn from other group members and enhance your skills, which will improve your long-term productivity. You could join an established group, or you may have to create one of your own. Either way, there are many benefits.
How to Benefit from a Being a Member
Have the right mindset. Before looking for these productivity partners, be clear about what you can give to the group and what you want to get out of the group. Be willing to accept advice (even if it sounds harsh) with an open mind.
Know the rules. If you plan to join an established mastermind group, ensure you understand the rules (written and unwritten) and your obligations to the group. Some groups are casual, while others have attendance, participation, and leadership (meeting host) requirements.
Is it free, or are there fees? Many mastermind groups are free. Some groups charge a minimal membership fee to cover costs of meeting space (physical or virtual) or cloud drives for document sharing. Other groups charge a higher membership fee to pay for an assistant who manages the administrative duties such as taking minutes, keeping records, etc.
A mastermind group allows you to surround yourself with supportive people who live their passion. But you must be prepared to engage fully, give back, and take on a leadership and group management role from time to time. If you’re not ready to fully participate or take on a leadership role, consider a group coaching or a coach-facilitated mastermind group.
