What is an Online Estate Auction Anyway?

Most people picture auctions as a large room filled with people holding paddles ready to bid on unique treasures. But an online auction can be more efficient, less stressful and more cost-effective! If you’re thinking of downsizing a large home with many household goods to disburse, I often recommend the services of an online estate auction like MaxSold. Read more to find out why.

It Saves Time and Hassle

MaxSold, an estate sale company, will come to your home to photograph and catalogue all your items for posting online. You don’t need to ship your furniture anywhere, post your own items or spend time responding to inquiries.

You (or your professional organizer) place your saleable items into groupings called ‘lots.’ When properly prepared, these lots drive the bidding process to encourage competitive offers.

The process, from photographing lots to pick-up, generally takes about 11 days. Since the auction is held online, no one comes to your home. There are no moving costs associated with delivering your goods to an auction house. Your address is not disclosed during the bidding process, so no one comes into your home.

An Online Auction Exposes Your Goods to a Wide Audience

Sending furniture to a consignment store or posting items on Craigslist or a Facebook group can be successful for specific items of value or vintage. But online auctions may give you even greater exposure to buyers. This sales platform gets lots of online traffic from people who are looking to purchase.

It’s Secure

There’s no need to show potential buyers into your home and view items. When it’s time for pick-up, the auction company supervises the process. Their staff monitors the successful bidder as they pack and transport items from your house to the buyer’s car.

While not for all my clients, online auctions are great for those who have a large volume of random items and want to downsize with little effort. It is by far the best way to remove the largest volume out of a home with the least amount of time and cost.

One of our clients was downsizing. You can see the results of the MaxSold auction here: Doran Road in North Vancouver.
