Making Your Office Look Good and Spacious

I was happy to be quoted in MKT LIST’s article about making your office look good and spacious. My tips on organizing your office and desk space include:

  • Don’t jump into big ideas. Start with small things. Small things are easy so getting started won’t feel so overwhelming.
  • Start by keeping all pens in one container. That could be in a small canister on your desk or in a cubby in the top drawer.
  • When sorting paperwork, start with three categories: active, reference, archival. Start organizing the active file first, then work on the reference file. Save the archival file for last because it will likely be the largest, and you don’t use it regularly.
  • Spend 10 or 15 minutes at the end of every workday to organize and set yourself up for the next day’s work. When you start the day in an organized manner, it will help you be productive first thing in the morning.

Other Tips

There were lots of other great tips in the article on making your office look good and spacious. Customizing your workspace to your body type is essential for ergonomics. Adding some personal touches like plants or family photos makes your desk psychologically comfortable and can boost your productivity. Splashes of your favourite colours either on the walls or within vibrant artwork can boost your mood too. Of course, good lighting is essential. A desk light with a soft-white lightbulb can help you see the computer screen without glare. Smart lightbulbs are a great idea because you can adjust the hue and brightness depending on your tasks.
