Are you putting off spring cleaning because you don’t know what to do with your old stuff? If you want to purge with purpose in 2017, here are some tips from my Breakfast Television Vancouver spot.
1. Towels and Blankets
Help out local organizations that care for animals. Contact the Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue or the BC SPCA for details.
2. Electronics
Your electronics can have a second life. Visit the BC Technology for Learning Society, Free Geek Vancouver or The Hackery for more information.
3. Encyclopedias
Unfortunately, these items are difficult to pass on. Sometimes teachers accept the books to use the glossy pictures in student projects. Another suggestion is to recycle the inside pages as paper and dispose of the covers. Visit the Recycling Council of BC for more information on recycling in our province.
4. Arts and Crafts
Visit Urban Source for more information on arts and crafts donation. This organization is located on Main Street and accepts a variety of art materials.
5. Tools
The Vancouver Tool Library (VTL), located on Commercial Street, is a cooperative tool lending library that appreciates donations.
6. Fabric
Our Social Fabric accepts donations of textiles, fabric and sewing related supplies. They are located on Venables Street.
7. Clothing and Other Items
There are many, many charities that accept donations of food, clothes, electronic items, furniture, books and housewares. Check out our Resources page to find a list of organizations in the Vancouver-Lower Mainland area.
When it’s time to purge with purpose in 2017, there are lots of great organizations that will accept your items! See the full Breakfast TV spot here.
