In case you missed our Breakfast TV segment on creating a great study space, read on for some good tips:
Build a comfortable space
Make sure your child’s study space has good task lighting, a comfortable chair and great desk organizers to keep the surface clutter-free. Choose a chair with ergonomics in mind, but have fun with it too! Clocks, independent from a phone or iPod, are great for time management.
Be sure to involve the kids and pick out some items to help them enjoy their space.
Create a school work dumping zone
Rather than allowing binders and homework to take over the front door, hallway or kitchen, create a dumping zone near the study space. With an allocated area, all school work will be together and students will know where to dump (and find) the items they brought home. Just keep it simple– no need to stress out and enforce strict organizing practices.
Bins or large baskets are very effective containers to corral miscellaneous work. Label them by subjects, by child or whatever works.
Take advantage of new organizational products
When you cruise your local stationery store, you’ll notice binders, dividers and file folders have come a long way! With cool colours and patterns, students can implement a special binder system and allocate a certain subject with a special colour.
Staying organized for school—and looking good– has never been easier.
Make an inspirational ‘zone out’ centre
A study space doesn’t need to be boring and quiet! Add an inspiration board, with their favourite things, to motivate them.
Study spaces can include headphones and speakers if those stimulate them. Leverage your child’s learning style (kinesthetic, auditory, visual learner) to implement an area of fun and inspiration.
