Here in Vancouver, apartments appear to be getting smaller and smaller (or perhaps, you are gathering more and more stuff?). Master bedrooms are tiny, and to organize your bedroom clothing is a struggle. Here are a few tips & tricks to best manage the available space you live in.
Maximize Your Hanging Space
Maximize the hanging space in your closet by creating a double hanger for your clothes. This way you use the full length and height of the closet. If height permits, raise the current bar in your closet in order to install a second bar below. There are products on the market that you can hook a second bar onto your existing rod as pictured in the image. This particular model is adjustable so you can set the height of the second bar to allow for more or less hanging space on the top or bottom.
Go Vertical
Maximize the rest of your bedroom space by thinking vertically. Use hidden space behind doors to mount hooks for clothing and easy access to belts & scarves. You can use over-the-door hooks for ties, scarves, and belts.
Create Grab-And-Go Cubbies
A chest of drawers is a handy solution to store all your undergarments and socks and keep your items out of sight and dust-free. However they do require quite a bit of space. You could create a grab-and-go scenario by having a set of shelves or cubbies. Insert bins in each cubbie to store socks, underwear, t-shirts, etc. The inserts will calm the visual chaos for those that have a tendency to “stuff” instead of fold.
When you organize bedroom clothing, remember that when you can see it, you will find it. And if you can easily find where it belongs, it will be easy to put away.
